Rhinecliff is a very special hamlet of the town of Rhinebeck. It is one of the oldest intact hamlets along the Hudson River. The river defines the west border of the hamlet and the other three sides are identified by large farms and dense woods. NY Route 308 connects Rhinecliff to Rhinebeck. The Amtrack train station in Rhinecliff provides a gateway to Rhinebeck.

Sitting on irregular slate ridges and valleys, Rhinecliff has steep terrain which contributes to the unique appearance of Rhinecliff: winding roads meander through the small 19th century houses which are seemingly randomly oriented. It is said that this look has not been changed much in more than 100 years.

Rhinecliff was founded in 1686 by five Dutchmen and named "Kipsbergen". In 1849 the name “Rhinecliff” came into being, and the hamlet served as the water and railroad gateway to Rhinebeck.

The present day Rhinecliff is a residential area and businesses, excluding home-based ones, are scarce. In Rhinecliff the sense of community is strong and the neighborly love is much cherished by the residents. The whole place has a laid-back, quaint, yet artsy atmosphere, a charming addition to trendy Rhinebeck village.
